Pixie Led { Dark Court }
Ardyn Izunia is a man whose reputation as villainous precedes him even in an entirely new reality. Although he comes from a time much later than most of those from home he knows, he is doing his best to figure out where he fits in this new grand scheme. So far, he's only been causing minimal harm and stirring up trouble to keep things exciting. He likes the Fae folk and their penchant for chaos.

Yet, old habits die hard. Ardyn will be trying to find footholds for power where possible and how he can claw his way up into a better position among the Fae Courts. Ardyn of all men doesn't like being told what to do by cosmic forces beyond his control already so he distrusts them but knows he needs to play their game to have any chance of winning. Only time will tell if he'll succeed or not.

Ardyn Izunia is a man whose reputation as villainous is an unknown in an entirely new reality.
He has a chance here, without anyone from home who knows him, to do his best to figure out where he fits in this new grand plan that isn't Bahamut's. So far, he's 'behaving' himself and only causing minimal (and, to him, fun) disruptions.

Yet, old habits die hard. He's been trying to find footholds for power where possible and how he can claw his way up into a better position. Ardyn of all men doesn't like being told what to do by cosmic forces beyond his control already so he distrusts Echo, Aurora, and even most of his fellow Etrayans. Only time will tell how bad he'll make things for everyone here.

⏵ character information
name: Ardyn Izunia
canon: FFXV
age: 2000+
canon point: After Chapter 13 (Redemption), but before the events of Chapter 14 (Homecoming). There's a nebulous 10-year gap in there I'm taking him from.
history: Just a man of no consequence.
abilities:
  • Power of Kings - Warping and phasing through solid matter, summoning weapons from thin air, and wielding the royal arms as well as his personal longsword, called the Rakshasa Blade. He uses Armiger (a hammerspace, essentially) in various ways and can also manifest a red scythe.

  • Elemental Magic - Ardyn can cast powerful magic, such as striking down bolts of lightning, summoning blizzards, and causing fiery explosions. He primarily controls the element of darkness, but can also fire energy beams from the palms of his hands that can knock their targets back, and summon a barrage of meteorites from the sky. He can momentarily transform into miasma and use this to teleport and to fly, a feat independent of his ability to warp.

  • Illusions - Ardyn can and assume the form of another, distorting others' perception of reality to create illusions. This makes him able to do things like manipulate people into attacking their friends by having them see them as himself.

  • "Healing" - Ardyn was blessed by the gods with the power to heal those afflicted with the Starscourge and traveled the world purging the plague by absorbing it into his own body. How I play this as his ability to 'heal' is such: He is therefore able to take other's pain and suffering into himself and 'heal' them of it as a result; this comes at the cost of his own immediate health, but he is immortal / can regenerate quickly and will only suffer temporarily.

  • The Starscourge (Daemonification) - Limited in Game Settings - He exudes miasma from his body at will, but unlike regular daemons, can operate in daylight as his body regenerates faster than the sun can damage him. He can turn others into daemons and assimilate them to increase his power, which also allows him to experience their memories. He will be capable of this in Etraya, but to a much more minor degree that will simply be temporary infection (and only affect mood/cause intrusive thoughts) and seeing memory snippets. This will be entirely opt-in and discussed with anyone as it becomes relevant!

  • Summon (Ifrit) - He can also usually summon Ifrit thanks to daemonifying him, but I'm fine with him needing to re-gain this or it also being limited since I doubt Aurora will appreciate a large man on fire stomping around the city.

  • personality: A self-styled "man of no consequence", Ardyn possesses more power than he first lets on to anyone he comes across. He believes it's better to be perceived as a simple fool to be able to keep the upper-hand over others. As chancellor of Niflheim, he supervised the highest reaches of government while also overseeing the empire's various research programs. Although not inept at his job by any means, many wondered how such a cavalier man managed to secure such a position after seemingly coming from nowhere.

On a surface level, he is a very theatrical man who is seemingly unbothered by just about anything. The man doesn't appear to take much seriously and even makes jokes or pokes fun during dire circumstances. He can also come across as creepy and suggestive when teasing to unsettle others purposefully. Yet, he is also civil, composed, and calm even in the face of hostility in order to keep his opponents guessing and give away nothing more than he needs to.

The longer one gets to know him though, the more the mask of a man will start to slip away and his true nature as a daemonic beast reveals itself. Underneath that laissez faire attitude, Ardyn is someone who has been hurt deeply and wishes to hurt in kind. He is bitter, mean, and cruel. While part of this is due to his traumatic betrayal from those he loved centuries ago, it is also exacerbated the Starscourge that infects him. It is a disease that thrives on darkness, pain, and ruination and - since he gave into it - compels him to cause the same.

Ardyn is intelligent, calculating, and often times manipulative in order to get what he wants. He even seemingly enjoys watching what comes of others playing into his schemes. Almost nothing can stop him once he sets his mind to something, for better or worse.

children of bahamut - drabble - ardyn finds ignis after his murder, it goes well for no one.

( █ cw for: suicidal ideation, violence, damage to cabbages )
darkness always finds you either way
When Ardyn awakens after his run-in with the 'bandits' gone wrong, the first thing he feels is an immeasurable rage. It seeps out of him like his blood had just hours prior and there is a frosty bite to his breath as he doesn't even bother trying to control his weapon. No, he thinks repeatedly, no. No. No, this is wrong. He was supposed to stay dead. He yells, snarls, and shatters their poor local deity's vase in the medical office that had a lovely collection of flowers in it.

Charlie mistakes his upset being due to the fact that he was murdered in the first place. That isn't what bothers Ardyn in the slightest. It's the fact that he's not still six feet in the ground, the fact that even here he can't just end. It was so close, he could tell, finally able to sleep for once instead of the painful re-stitching of his body until it could function again after former blows that would be fatal to anyone but him. This time, there had been such a nice quiet afterwards and he's so angry at that being stripped from him.

Dimitri kicks him out before he can do more damage, which is probably for the best. The man's tail lashes and claws flex as he growls and spits ice nearly all the way to his ramshackle home in Town. It infuriates him all over again to think he's just supposed to go on living once more like nothing had happened. Eventually though, after some days, he manages to peel himself off the floor when he's out of even his own homebrewed toxic swill to lose himself in.

He needs more and can't do that from where he lay in a puddle of his own filth and vomit on the floor. So, he cleans himself up and the mess he made. Then, he heads into Town to puppeteer himself into being a presentable person. It's actually going better than he expects. He chats with some of the locals - 'Oh, just had a busy few days!' to anyone that recognizes he's been absent - and peruses the market food stalls as if he might actually eat anything.

He glances up from a bushel of apples to see Ignis Scientia standing a row or so away. All that anger, malice, and grief comes rushing back to him in an instant as his pupils constrict into slits and his posture tightens. "Fancy seeing you here," he starts, misleadingly casual, after tossing the apple he was holding somewhere and approaching the other man. Ignis of all people though knows better and is already dodging Ardyn's sudden assault.

He was trying not to make any kind of scene, but doesn't care about that anymore. All he cares about is making Ignis hurt, bleed, scream- Anything. Anything, to make him feel a fraction of the pain Ardyn does at being denied his final rest. "I told you," he hisses, frosty breath coating vegetables and fruit both as vendors retreat and curse him in the same moment, "that you couldn't-"

He gets cut off with a small 'oof' as a head of cabbage smacks him directly in the face. "Did you just-?" Ardyn asks, still enraged but now also incredulous. Before he can finish that question, another leafy ball is thrown at him.

"Are you quite finished?" Ignis asks, standing poised to chuck another one, face set so seriously that it's comical considering his choice of weapon. This time though, it's shredded with Ardyn's claws as he roars and charges Ignis again. "You obnoxious little brat," the man rumbles, trying not to show any appreciation for the humor in all this.

"Let me even the playing field," the redhead continues, gripping a kumquat and hurling it towards Ignis. He grabs more and begins trying to pelt the man as he runs and ducks beneath another stall. It continues on this way for a bit - throwing insults and produce at one another - until Ardyn is striking again. He tackles Ignis to the ground to scratch and bite at the other man where he can. "I told you," smack "that you couldn't," smack "truly kill me." This time, it's him who's smacked in the face and shoved up and away from being able to harm the brunette further. Ignis' claws leave indents and marks across his throat and jawline as he bleeds red and black both.

"So don't bother next time unless you can finish- the- job!" Each of those final three words are punctuated by attempts to reach and grab onto his hair and tug. His aggression has cooled some but he's still aiming to do some damage. At least, until he's grabbed by the arms and hoisted up and off by the local guard. Well- It was an inevitability, he supposes, but he squirms and snarls against their grip regardless.

"Guards, this man assaulted me for no discernable reason," Ignis starts, which gets a sharp 'ha!' from Ardyn. "He is obviously unwell and-"
"Sir, you'll need to come with us as well to see Charlie."
"But it was him who-" Ignis tries to protest, frowning and brows burrowed.
"He's requested both of you," the guard answers, stern and sure.

"... Very well," the younger man concedes.

They're both sit across from Charlie in his office while he lectures them. Ardyn gets a talking to about how he shouldn't attack people in broad daylight. Ignis, meanwhile, gets a disappointed tone from Charlie about withholding the true nature of Ardyn's death from him. While he won't tell anyone, he is going to put an end to this senseless violence and disruption. Regardless of what happened before here and their feelings towards each other, he won't stand for the disrespect of his authority.

(Ardyn gets a look when he mentions how much more attractive Charlie is when he takes charge like this. It shuts him up. For now.)

A spell is cast then to prevent any fatal harm from befalling Ardyn; any intentional attempt to will re-direct the blow in an obvious, exaggerated manner. Likewise, Ardyn is to be on his best behavior or else he'll be further restricted in ability than he already is. Oh, and- He needs to do community service for the local farmers to help make up for their lost wages with the tantrum that he threw in the marketplace.

Begrudgingly, he agrees. At least it'll give him something to do besides stew in his own miserable head day-to-day.
